Composer/Librettist Ari Frankel is a Composition graduate of Tel Aviv University's Academy of Music. From opera ( Lot's Daughters And Their Father) through new-age (Suzanne Ciani's Grammy-nominated Neverland) to contemporary solo piano ( SHATTERED, hymns for mortal creatures) his film and television soundtracks, commercial and electronic sound design, and orchestral scores have gained kudos in Europe and America, including The Bourges International Electro-acoustic Festival and The International Film & TV Festival of New York.

Since his move to New York City in 1987, he has explored themes from The Tibetan Book Of The Dead, T.S. Eliot ( The Waste Land), Anne Sexton and many others. Collaborators have included Muna Tseng Dance Projects, the LaMama Theater, The Actors Studio, The Atlantic Theater, John Kelly and William H. Macy.

Among Mr. Frankel's film compositions are Robert Redford and Michael Apted's documentary Incident At Oglala, the features Crows and Tel Aviv Stories, and several Rebo Studio/NHK High-Definition TV programs, including Passage To Vietnam, Doctors Without Frontiers, and The White House: Inside With The President's Photographers. He has scored audiobooks for R.L. Stine and Ben & Jerry, Sinon & Schuster, and HarperCollins, and moves with ease from Paris' IRCAM to Manhattan's Lower East Side and back.

The New York Times described one of his many works for dance as a "haunting collage of sounds, original and popular music". The Glasgow Herald felt "true passion" in another work and The London Times marveled at "light seeming materials build[ing] an overwhelming effect". The Village Voice explained his "emotionally charged original music" as "wonderfully poignant and plangent".

Frankel's eclectic the ocean of love album-for-the-whole-family was awarded a 1996 Parent's Choice Honor and selected by Parent Council as outstanding. His original wiping ceramic tiles for countertenor & piano is to be recorded with James Bowman (demo available). Frankel is now planning a Nietzsche Requiem and a Francis Bacon opera.

His music has been heard in Chicago, Houston, Princeton, Los Angeles, England, France, Italy, Germany, Israel, Sweden, Holland, Japan and Poland. New York performances have included The Kitchen, Dia Center For The Arts, SummerStage at Central Park & Washington Square Church. He has been active in journalism and radio. A certified vocational school music composition teacher since 1986, Frankel continues to instruct -- as time allows -- specializing in film/dance/theater composing and advanced sound design/sequencing techniques.
